Katie Edwards  joins us this week for an engaging conversation on what it takes to step up and step into the fascinating world of politics!  Oh, I know, politics is one of those ‘off limit’ conversations to maintain the peace and this discussion isn’t about political views but instead the exploration of a young woman’s dedication and commitment to stand up for what she believes in and the willingness to put herself on the line as she fights for causes she believes in.

Katie was born and raised in Broward County and is actively involved in the South Florida community.  She is currently completing her Juris Doctor degree at Florida International University and running for State Representative (District 98).  Her love of agriculture led her to the Dade County Farm Bureau where she was named Executive Director at the age of 22.  For nearly eight years, she worked as a tireless advocate for our family farmers and nursery growers. Katie now operates her own consulting business where she continues to help family businesses grow.  She volunteers her time at local schools by mentoring youth, giving presentations and motivating high school seniors.

  Nancy:  So, this high-growth demographic is referred to as the Hispanic community, right?  Tell us, who are Hispanics?

  Ricardo:  Well, honestly,  Hispanics don’t exist!  ”Hispanic” is a political term that’s used, as they say, “Only in America!”  No people in Latin America call themselves “Hispanics.” It’s a word that lumps together Spanish speaking people from 21 Latin American countries who many times don’t even get along very well.  There is no country named “Hispaniclandia!” If we are going to have high levels of success in business with Latinos, we need much deeper cultural insight than just lumping people into one convenient group. This approach simply doesn’t work in business. 

Ricardo Gonzalez is a man on a mission.  He teaches Latinos and non-Latinos how to develop high levels of professional and community success together.  Join us this week as Ricardo shares how to properly understand and communicate with Latinos, far and away, the nation’s fastest growing demographic.

Ricardo Gonzalez is Founder and CEO of Bilingual America, an internationally respected language and cultural leadership training institute.  He is the developer and teacher of Spanish Power Basic to Expert course as well as two cultural leadership courses; Success with Hispanicsand Lideres Exitosos.  He is a featured writer for several different trade magazines as well as the author of the groundbreaking book, The 12 Hidden Truths to Learning Spanish. Ricardo comes from a bilingual, bi-cultural family.  His father is from Puerto Rico and is one of 27 children.
