Unexpected Presents During the Holidays

You can feel it in the air, you can see it in the stores, on the highway light poles and even pumping in through elevator musak … the holiday season is upon us!  The sense of anticipation, excitement and fun times with family and friends fills our spirits.   We’re checking our budgets, checking our lists and checking out from our hurried work mode into our hurried holiday season mode, figuring out how we’ll keep the business going and give ourselves a much deserved break.

As we prepare for the presents and fun we’re going to have, some unexpected presents come up too.  Along with the onset of the Holiday Season comes the Cold and Flu Season caused by a variety of factors, including the fact that we are in contact with more people than we usually are, thereby increasing the number of germs and viruses we are exposed to.  Now, you may be expecting me to go on a rant about how important it is to wash your hands, cover your mouth when you sneeze or to make sure you get your flu shot, double up on Vitamin C, Zinc and eat lots of chicken soup … BUT NO … that’s not the message for this article (although, of course, those are important too).

Through the years I have become aware that the onset of the Cold and Flu Season is also the onset of what I refer to as the “Old and Blue Season” which is less publicized and therefore, can be even more dangerous.

The “Old” … because we tend to be with people that we’re not used to being around, who may not be travelling the same or a similar path of positivity and brotherly and sisterly love, our “Old’ buttons can be easily pushed, “Old” wounds that we thought were healed are cut open again, and our own “Old’ behavior patterns can be triggered, sending us into a tailspin.

The “Blue” … for some, the holiday season can cause a feeling of loss or melancholy.  Too much focus on people that are no longer in our lives, reflecting on the things we didn’t accomplish this year and focusing on a past that we find less than perfect can cause us to feel “Blue” in the present.

Join me on Monday, November 12th at 7:30 pm (eastern) for “The Present Show” when this week’s present will be a prescription to prepare for and protect you during the Holiday Season so that you can fully enjoy all the presents as they come to you this year!
